PERNILLA - NÄR JAG BLUNDAR
Text: Jonas Karlsson
Music: Jonas Karlsson
SELECTION FORMAT
This year, YLE got rid of the familiar Euroviisut -format, used for the last few years. YLE wanted to make Finland's pre-selection more popular by not focusing on the Eurovision Song Contest but just making this an annual music festival. The format was confusing and the rules were changed along the race.
.
Those who wanted to participate could send their songs to Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu. 540 demos were received and the jury choosed 40 best to the next stage. Those songs were uploaded on YLE website and in January, number of contestants were narrowed to12 by the judges. They were invited to perform their entry in front of the jury and television audience, although audience could not affect the results. Eventually, six qualified to the national final where the winner was chosen by the viewers.
PERNILLA KARLSSON
Pernilla, 21, has always loved music but hadn't sing much publicly before UMK and Eurovision Song Contest. Although she won a children's singing competition when 15 years old, she continued with handball in which she is really good. After Eurovision, Pernilla will prepare her first studio album and she wants to make more music in the future.
.
Her brother, Jonas, has penned Pernilla's Eurovision entry, which was originally written for their mother. The song is in Swedish which is another official language in Finland.

MY PREDICTION
As a Finn myself, I am probably not the best person to rate the song, which I think is beautiful and fresh in the middle of the typical 'Eurovision-music'. This year's contest is full of great ballads and this is one of them. Although Paradise Oskar was great last year, Pernilla is even better. No Helsinki 2013 but should qualify to the final. My prediction; 7th-9th in the semifinal.
