SELECTION FORMAT

After last year's internal selection and poor success in the song contest, the Dutch broadcaster TROS decided to organize a competition which was open for everyone. Submissions were received from July to September and broadcaster's expectations exceeded when over 450 demos were sent. The six finalists were chosen and presented in January. National final took place in Hilversum on February 26th and with the mix of jury votes and public televotes, Joan Franka won the Nationaal Songfestival.

JOAN FRANKA

Joan Franka is only 21 years old singer whose father is Turkish and mother Dutch. She participated the first edition of The Voice of Holland but was eliminated on the fifth week. Two of her songs that she sang in the talent competition made it to the Dutch Singles Chart.

ABOUT THE SONG

Her Eurovision entry "You and Me" is written and composed by Joan together with Jessica Hoogenboom. She has explained that the song is about innocent young love. Right after the song was released it jumped to the first place of The Single Top 100.

 

MY PREDICTION

This is a cute harmless song with incredibly catchy melody. Might even qualify to the final and the Dutch people would deserve it after all these years. Welcome back the Netherlands! My prediction; 8th-12th in the semifinal.
